Today we did our first online class using Google Hangouts. The students were so excited about seeing one another online for the first time. Sharing the screen worked well, however, there were some slight issues in the sound for some students. The power of using the chat worked well. The message to the community and to the students before suddenly going online was vital to making this successful. Today we had 19 students join us online.
The students all knew how to access the Google Hangout and the basic functions of this as it was practised as a class before we went online. I wonder how well this would work if we had not practised beforehand.
Today as a professional google hangout we talked about some of the issues that can potentially come up. First of all, it is suggested to record each hangout. Secondly making sure that you cannot be kicked out of the Hangout yourself.
